Teaching children the love of GOD

I talked to my little GRAND children too. I love that word “grandmother” because it means to me that as a grandmother, two things: I have GRAND children of my children, and I get to be called “grand” by the people that matter most to me! What a blessing! But in reality they call me a name they prefer “Nanny” because it is a familiar one that we, me and my only two children [grown daughters] grew up hearing in that context.

Here are my thoughts on that topic of the duties of becoming a GRAND-mother, mother-surrogate sort of to those children of your children. There are many so-called philosophies of life and many of them are very worldly. Yet teaching one’s own family to love GOD is the most important task of all. I was adding the scriptures about JESUS’ resurrection to some of my journals today when they called. . Oh yea, I know that my daughter teaches them that there is a GOD, and to pray, but I believe that grandmothers [and grandfathers too, except in this case, I am divorced but the grandfathers are  alive elsewhere]  are very influential in the lives of their grandchildren. Maybe more in a way than the parents.

My own grandparents influenced me greatly and in very positive ways. I think that sometimes the wisdom of those added years gives a patience and an understanding to the Grands that perhaps the mother an father may not have in those child-bearing years.

I learned that my oldest granddaughter who is all of seven, I think, sold 69 boxes of girl scout cookies and is learning to add, subtract, multiply in school and that my oldest grandson , at age of almost nine, is willing to read the Bible to his younger siblings and thank GOD for that! My littlest granddaughter is yet to be born, and the middle one loves to sing and was born with that love. We sang JESUS loves me several times. I remember her wearing a ski hat on her head, riding on the push part of the vaccum cleaner and singing at the top of her lungs when she was a baby! In my mind’s eye, I remember that photograph of her and it always pleases me. All of my grandchildren are so precious to me and the things that they do and say are the crowning moments of my life in so many ways. Sometimes when I wonder what I did right in my life, I think of those darling children and the sweet and wonderful things that they do that affirm me. They love me too! It is the greatest reward of my life to know that, through all the chaos of my life, I produced two wonderful living daughters who in turn are producing wonderful children [or will, one daughter is not married yet but I pray she will and have lots of children].

If you are in the mindset that you are falsely thinking that you cannot afford children, mend your ways. The greatest most enduring blessing on the earth is children and their children.
